Task for 2015....
Divide the class into 2 or 3 groups
By the time you have finished you should be familiar with the 4 main pest species
and know about the key natives species: robins, kaka, bellbird, insects, mistletoe, honeydew
Section 1: the Mainland Island
Section 2 Wasps
Section 3 Rats
Section 4 Stoats
Section 5 Possums
Divide the class into 2 or 3 groups
- Select one of the student reports above (they were done by our students over the last 3 years)
- Work in pairs of 2 or 3 to cover one of the 5 sections outlined below
- Summarise your section into 1 page maximum to share with the others / class, include graphs, tables etc

- when and why was it established
- what area(s) are used as a control / comparison

- what is the impact of too many
- what is the result of controlling them
Section 3 Rats
- how are they controlled
- how are their numbers monitored
- what is the impact of too many
- what is the result of controlling them
Section 4 Stoats
- how are they controlled
- how are their numbers monitored
- what is the impact of too many
- what is the result of controlling them
Section 5 Possums
- how are they controlled
- how are their numbers monitored
- what is the impact of too many
- what is the result of controlling them
The students produced their reports after visiting Rotoiti and carrying out research, mostly from DoC annual reports,.... link over there......
